Behind the Scenes Q1 2023

Waypoint Team

Q1 for Waypoint was a balance of hard-work and team fun that included an in-person retreat in San Francisco. The WWP Team welcomed their newest member, Anabel Diaz, who joined the firm in January. She is an Associate Wealth Manager, and they are delighted to have her join their growing team.

In March, the WWP team gathered in San Francisco for their first retreat of the year. This session was focused on effective communication, company values and strategic planning. They were joined by colleagues from Dimensional Fund Advisors to provide insight on current trends and metrics in our industry. Following these sessions, the team attended a private led tour of the SF Giants stadium at Oracle Park. It was a fun one-of-a-kind experience and their tour guide was very knowledgeable about all things SF Giants.

Chuck

Chuck celebrated his 60th birthday in January and enjoyed celebrating with family and friends. He took advantage of the epic snow this winter and enjoyed ski trips to Mammoth with his buddies and to Jackson Hole, WY with his son and partner Paula. He also hosted the Family Wealth Advisors Council conference in Lake Tahoe and had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the industry leaders on how to navigate these challenging times with high inflation which we have not seen in many decades.

Annette

Annette has been focused on getting out from behind her screen and having more meetings in person. “Zoom is a really efficient way to meet and get stuff done but there’s no replacing the value of human connection. I’m loving my weekly San Francisco workday and just joined Shack15 at the Ferry Building, a beautiful space to connect with people, collaborate and think big. It’s been really energizing!” On the personal front, Annette and Adrian celebrated their godson, Aidan’s bar mitzvah. “We’re so proud of Aidan and admire the young man he’s becoming. He’s kind, smart, funny and a great friend, all such great qualities that we also see in his parents, our dear friends Rick and Stacy Byrne. Mazel Tov Aidan!”

Courtney

Q1 was filled with another fun trip for Courtney and her family. They headed to Tahoe with friends and Ella and Riley had their first experience with snow! It was a ton of snow and great new memories created with family and friends. The Presidio Tunnel Tops Park and a few local hikes in the rain were also on their list of fun activities together. In February, Courtney attended her first in-person retreat for her Schwab Executive Leadership Program in Dallas. Her time was filled with productive sessions on business leadership with her talented 39-person class, representing almost $700B in assets under management across 20 states.

——

Rania

Rania has been settling into her new home of San Diego and in doing so began volunteering with the Detomasso Dogs non-profit https://tddogs.org/. The organization focuses on rescuing and rehoming dogs from the streets of Baja and all-over Southern California. Her favorite part of volunteering with the organization is to hold puppies at a local park and talk to people who are interested in adding a four-legged friend to their family. “This is the BEST volunteer opportunity while also making you feel good in helping these dogs get to their forever home”.

——

Jill

This winter, Jill spent 10 days in Southern California for business and a friends and family tour. She connected with Waypoint’s team at Dimensional Fund Advisors to share ideas about investments. While in town, Jill connected with longtime friends from UCLA. Lori and John welcomed her to their beautiful, coastal San Diego home for a weekend of reunion and walks along the beach, and she and Dave enjoyed a weekend at his Palm Springs getaway, watching their Bruins secure a 2nd seed in the NCAA tournament, and enjoying the beautiful desert landscape. Sadly, Jill said goodbye to her Aunt Susan, twin sister to her mother-in-law, who has been a lifelong mentor and inspiration to her.

——

Becca

Becca’s first quarter was filled with massive snowstorms in the Sierra mountains. Mammoth has received ~700 inches of snow this year – the biggest season on record! Aside from shoveling this quarter, Becca escaped the snowstorms and travelled to Bend, Oregon to visit friends, San Francisco for our firm-wide retreat, and Death Valley, canyoneering with friends. She also had a great time hosting her family from back east for their winter break. She hosted her sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews from New York who thoroughly enjoyed skiing on Mammoth Mountain.

——

Jesse

Another spring means another Mardi Gras for Jesse & Matthias! They have spent the last year working on their extensive costume closet and were ready to go with fun outfits for all 10 days of parading. The weather varied from cold and rainy to hot and sunny, but they enjoyed every minute of it! They also celebrated Kona’s 3rd birthday in February and have enjoyed taking him to the dog park where he’s discovered his love for lounging in the bath (as long as they’re not trying to wash him).

——

Anabel

Anabel experienced a rainy Q1, but whenever the sun shone, she took pleasure in horseback riding. Anabel and her dog Arlo also spent considerable time in the yard, soaking up the sun and preparing her garden for the sunny days to come. For Valentine’s Day, Anabel spent time creating flower arrangements for her neighbors. Her cat, Lucy, also took an interest in the flowers and enjoyed smelling them. Additionally, Anabel dedicated her time volunteering at her local SPCA, where she fed all the cat’s breakfast and maintained their living area. She had a pleasure caring for a cat named Siren, who tends to emit loud meows to attract attention, hence the given name. Siren has since found a loving home!

Dariusz:

Coming off a great holiday season with family and friends he was excited to kick off the new year with his annual ski trip, this year was to Whistler. Dariusz along with his crew had 4 great days of skiing Whistler Blackcomb and enjoying the poutine that is so rarely found in the United States. He also managed to be up in Tahoe for some of the snowstorms and completed a few backcountry tours in addition to resort skiing. The biggest highlight in the first quarter was a wedding in Hawaii that he attended. The wedding was for a boarding school friend and a handful of classmates were also able to make the trip to celebrate. It was a great moment reconnecting and catching up with them, he hasn’t seen some of them in 10+ years. Alongside the celebration the group also got together plenty of times to enjoy poke and even roasted their own Kona coffee blend that they were able to take home.

——

Avelina

Q1 brought in some travel time for Avelina. She took a trip to New York City to visit family, while there her time consisted of many miles of walking, sightseeing, and eating tons of delicious food. “One of my favorite things about New York City is the great food! You can get so many different cuisine options at any time of the day, there truly is no place like New York.” Avelina also managed to take a couple trips north to Truckee for a nice walk near the river and to Reno for a fun weekend at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino.

Lindsay

Lindsay spent a lot of her time traveling this quarter! First it was to New Orleans to celebrate Toby and Lauren’s 21st birthdays. Everyone had a blast and she even got to connect with one of her coworkers, Jesse! Then it was off to San Francisco for another amazing team retreat. Lastly, she headed down to Florida with her kids for spring break to see her family and some good friends. It was a great time and the kids loved hanging out on the beach.  When she wasn’t traveling, she was going to Blues games (definitely not their year but still love them!) and watching her kids play her favorite sport, basketball.
