Behind the Scenes Q4 2020

WWP Team

The Waypoint Team ended 2020 with their annual holiday gathering!  They chose to participate in a virtual cooking class led by Instructor Pietro Visconti from Milan, Italy. They prepared Tagliatelle pasta with a Bolognese sauce all from scratch and it was a major hit with the entire team. After the class they all sat down over Zoom and enjoyed the pasta dish paired with a nice glass of wine and then got to partake in a white elephant gift exchange which has become a Waypoint tradition over the years. The virtual cooking class was a great way for the team to come together and close out 2020 on a high note!

Annette

As soon as Annette heard that Hawaii was lifting their 14-day quarantine requirement, she booked her first flight in a year and headed to the Big Island with Adrian in early November. “It was magical to be in Hawaii with hardly anyone there and having entire beaches all to ourselves, but at the same time heartbreaking to imagine the struggle of the locals and small business owners with so few tourists around. We had a wonderful, relaxing week and are staying optimistic that pent up demand will bring things roaring back before too long.”

The holidays were as low key as they get for Annette and Adrian, but one highlight was celebrating their friend Simon’s birthday on the day of New Year’s Eve. “Poor Simon always gets his birthday outdone by New Year’s Eve but not in 2020! We took the afternoon off and celebrated with a lovely picnic on the bluff of Cavallo Point, with lobster rolls and a white burgundy tasting. It was a perfect day, one that we all decided should be a new tradition!”

Chuck

Chuck started the fall with his son CJ attending his sophomore year of college in the living room and his high school senior in the dining room. While not ideal we made the best of it. By the end of the year CJ was living in a one-bedroom apartment off campus back in Cleveland and his daughter Genny had completed all of her college applications – a month early! The empty nest was clearly visible on the horizon and it was clear in person school was unlikely for Genny. So, we decided to get a puppy! Agnew (named after a lake in the Eastern Sierra, not a Vice President) joined the family in October.

Courtney

The end of 2020 was filled with many fun family memories for the Hutchinson crew. Family hikes, the traditional New Year’s Day trip to Stinson Beach, family birthdays, baking cookies and Ella enjoying Christmas in a whole different way now that she is 3. Riley is growing each day and turned 4 months just before the Christmas holiday. They continue to spend time outside as much as possible getting sunshine, fresh air, riding bikes, and splashing in puddles.

Rania

Since working remotely this year, Rania has taken the opportunity to spend time in the greater New York City areas. She spent the fall months leaf peeping, weekend hiking and enjoying the empty NYC streets. Her favorite hike was in Stokes State Forest in New Jersey where the foliage was bursting with color, a true Northeast luxury! Since the New York City streets were empty, she used it as an opportunity to tour iconic financial district sites and get this picture with the charging bull. She also went on a walking tour of Central Park and found the Literary Walk a beautiful place to stop for lunch. She is looking forward to continuing to experience new cities while working remotely.

Jesse

Jesse spent Q4 road-tripping around in the Subaru with her boyfriend, Matthias, and their dog Kona. They visited four national parks - Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Yosemite, and Rocky Mountain! They spent the holidays in a family cabin in Estes Park, CO where Kona got to go in the snow for the first time. It was a big hit!

Jill

Like for so many people in the world, this year the traditions of our holiday season were set aside in 2020 and new ones were created. Our Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday table extended not in our dining room but through Zoom as we gathered with friends and family virtually this year. One fun twist was an entirely new menu. Out went the turkey and stuffing and in came a tabletop grill for a Japanese dinner. I am grateful that we had our small family pod in person and loved that my mother-in-law and I were on the same page with our wardrobe selection!

Dariusz

Dariusz has been enjoying Tahoe to the fullest with 16 days of skiing on the mountain! He recently got back from Park City Utah where he spent 4 days skiing the slopes of the Wasatch Mountains. Even though he did not get the feet of powder that Tahoe had, the storm managed to have some snow left and dumped about a foot over Park City to give him some fresh snow to snowboard on. He has an avalanche/backcountry class coming up soon, stay tuned for pictures on that!

Avelina

Q4 has been quite eventful for Avelina! She got to visit family in NYC for Thanksgiving, luckily before the snow and harsh weather arrived. She continues to find activities that get her outside and exploring the bay area. Pictured below is a shot on one of her favorite hikes Sweeney Ridge that ravines between San Bruno and Pacifica. Avelina also visited the De Young Museum in San Francisco where she got to walk through the Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving exhibit that is going on now through May 2, 2021. “I would recommend this exhibit to anyone if you are a Frida fan! It was so fascinating to learn more about Frida and her early influences who contributed to shaping her identity and artistic direction.”
