Behind the Scenes Q3 2019

Team WWP

Team Waypoint spent an afternoon together at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).  They were led on a docent tour of renowned artist Andy Warhol’s exhibit From A to B and Back Again.  This exhibit originated at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and was brought to San Francisco earlier this year.

Waypoint welcomed our newest team member, Darius Baliczek in October.  He is our new Trade and Operations Associate and joined us with 3 years of industry experience.  He previously worked at a Bay Area wealth management firm as a trader and most recently as an investment operations specialist.

Jesse, Adriana and Rania volunteered at this year’s 10th annual Financial Planning Day, held at the San Francisco Public Library. The full day event offered one-on-one financial planning with Certified Financial Planners (CFP®) as well as seminars on a broad range of topics from purchasing your first home, how to pay for college education, and investing fundamentals. Mayor London Breed gave a speech and addressed the over 250 attendees as well as the 50+ volunteers about the importance of financial wellness. The event is free to the public and staffed by volunteers in the local San Francisco financial planning community and our Waypoint team is excited to continue supporting this great event!

Annette

Annette traveled to Maine in August to spend 4 days with her study group where they did a deep dive on aging and end of life decisions that was inspired by reading Atul Gawandi’s national best seller, Being Mortal.  “This is an area that no one really wants to talk about but one that we will all face.  I hope we can start having more rich conversations that recognize our mortality, so we live well, with intention, and finish strong.”

Annette and Adrian traveled to Europe in September visiting friends in the Mosel wine region in Germany, the French Alps near Chamonix, and ending in Tuscany to celebrate some dear friend’s 20th wedding anniversary.  “Spending our vacation with good friends every step of the way was such a treat, we loved every minute of it and created many lasting memories.”

Chuck

The summer for Chuck was full of transitions.  Dropping his son CJ off for his freshman year at Case Western Reserve University brought a few tears for mom and dad and bright eyes of excitement for CJ.  His daughter, Genny, quickly transitioned into being the only child and is loving her independence and car.  Trips to ride Gran Fondo bike rides in Salt Lake City, Tucson, and Santa Rosa with partner Julie have helped fill the void.  On the work front, Chuck has enjoyed building depth in the investment department with the addition of Cearull Horgan and Dariusz Baliczek.

Courtney

Courtney, TJ and Ella enjoyed a fun vacation in Wilmington, NC to visit family.  The beaches were beautiful, the weather was great, and a lot fun was had.  Ella spent most of her time in the water, either at the beach or the pool, and playing with her cousins.  She turned two in August and her parents can’t believe it!  Ella had a fun birthday party with family and her favorite gift was her trampoline.

Jesse

Many of the Waypoint team members are alumni of the UC Berkeley Extension’s Personal Financial Planning certificate program. Recently, Jesse was profiled for the UC Berkeley blog as an example of how program alumni can leverage their program experience to progress in their financial planning careers.

Rania

Rania and her family (brother Rami and mother Caroline) celebrated the advent of fall with a weekend trip to Placerville to tour through Apple Hill.  They enjoyed fresh baked apple pie, apple cider, and even did a little apple picking. She brought some apples to the office for everyone to enjoy!

Avelina

Avelina spent her last summer days in the Florida Keys. She did a road trip with her best friend from Fort Lauderdale, Florida all the way to Key West with many fun stops along the way.

Avelina went on a trip to Lake Tahoe.  This was the very first time she’s ever visited Lake Tahoe and it won’t be the last! “The amazing views and wide variety of hikes was one of my favorite things about this trip.  We even managed to get a little snow making it the perfect weekend getaway!”

Dariusz

Dariusz loves to spend his time outdoors like most of the Waypoint team.  He most recently hiked up to the top of Sierra Butte Lookout near Graeagle California.  While the views are supposed to be stunning on a clear day, he found his way into the middle of a cloud once he reached the top. He did find some sunshine however, kayaking on Salmon Lake.

Dariusz enjoyed a trip to the pumpkin patch with his girlfriend, Cammie and a group of friends.  They attended an event called Pumpkin Nights hosted at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
