Babies being born, happy couples getting engaged … all good

Justin and his wife, Katherine, became parents on Aug. 5 to James Grant Dyer. The happy and healthy baby was 7 pounds, 11 ounces and 21 inches. (Chuck and his daughter, Genny, won the office pool.) Justin raves, “It has been an absolute joy and I totally understand why people say it is life changing!”

Annette, Chuck and Courtney attended the FPA NorCal Conference in San Francisco in May. They participated in many interesting and insightful sessions, including one in which Christina Romer, professor of economics at UC Berkeley, discussed monetary policy for the 21st century.

Courtney and T.J. got engaged in April! He popped the question in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, and they plan to marry there in April 2016.

Annette spent four days in Maine this fall with a small group of fellow women advisors and business owners. “It was a lovely setting to get outdoors and think BIG about our firms and how we’re servicing our clients’ evolving needs. We shared lots of great ideas, ate plenty of lobster and came back inspired and energized!”

Justin attended Dimensional Fund Advisors’ annual conference at its headquarters in Austin. The two-day event covered topics ranging from nerdy (“but super interesting”) financial models and economics to creating institutions with purpose and value to society.

In August, Chuck and his children, C.J. (14) and Genny (12) ,went on a six-day white water rafting trip down the Salmon River (aka “The River of No Return”). “It was an incredible trip with rafting, outdoors and lots of laughter.”
Courtney and T.J. went to Puerto Rico in August. They enjoyed beautiful beaches, the historic town of Old San Juan, zip lining through the rainforest and lots of delicious food.

In May, Justin and Katherine went on a “baby moon” to Maui. Justin enjoyed a ride from sea level to the top of the Haleakala Volcano – a continuous climb that spans 36 miles and gains 10,000 feet in elevation. “It was awesome!” They also did some great hiking and paddle boarding but, most of all, they relaxed and enjoyed the ocean.

This summer, Leslie and her husband took a road trip to San Simeon to see Hearst Castle, elephant seals and the beautiful coastline. They also enjoyed a fun trip with her sister and brother-in-law to Monterey where they rode in a surrey.

Chuck has attended several conferences, including the Family Wealth Advisors Council in Boston in mid-August. He learned many interesting lessons, but a common theme was market volatility and how to take advantage of it.

Leslie went to Vail this summer with five girlfriends that she’s known since elementary school. The 11th annual trip included a great hike up to a gorgeous waterfall.

Chuck’s son, C.J., started high school at Bentley School in Lafayette. He made the varsity cross country team and is studying Latin as his foreign language. Daughter, Genny, stepped up her softball game by playing on the U12 Oakland Vipers competitive team.

Annette stayed close to home this summer but did manage a short trip to Lake Tahoe with her husband, Adrian. They enjoyed some quiet time in the mountains, hiking, reading and sitting by the lake with their dog, Casey Jones.

Andrea spent her summer enjoying movies (her favorite was “The Visit”), running (training for the Bridge-to-Bridge race) and exploring her favorite city, San Francisco. She also attended the Schwab 2015 Solutions conference where she learned how to make the client experience more secure and convenient through the use of electronic approvals for money transfers and account maintenance.
